Matix was in NEED of a haircut. Actually, Paul and Hawk need one too. But Matix asked for one, so he got it. He asked for it to be SHORT like Paul... Matix has never had short hair. Ever. Not since he was a bald little baby. I was a little apprehensive, I love his shaggy hair... Before:
He let me use the trimmers, so it turned out pretty even. He has a pretty wicked widows peak so it looks a lot better when we style it. He loves that too and asks for it to be styled certain ways. I took pictures of his first time seeing it in the mirror. He loves it!
Here are the close up afters. Handsome thing!!
Then after I posed him looking to the sides, he posed me and said to be "surprised, but not scared surprised, just happy surprised, about how handsome I look." So, here I am being happy surprised about how handsome he looks.

treats
After naps on Mother's Day, the Newells came over for dinner. It's a pretty regular thing for us to all hang out on Sundays, which we love. The kids decorated cookies for Mindy and I. They turned out pretty cute too. I had a thick coating of sprinkles on the floor afterward, but the mess is always worth the fun, right? :)

Children's Museum Show
We saw a show at the Children's Museum. It was a take off on The Wizard of Oz, as a circus act. The kids loved it, but when it was time to take a picture with the performers, Lullaby had a come apart. She twirls and pulls on her hair when she's nervous.
Exploring different kinds of slime. My kids love this messy sensory stuff.
And story time, of course. Can't beat story time!
dentist
The kids twice a year dentist check up was a half way success. They left with prizes for having NO CAVITIES again, but they were not as good in the office as they have been in the past. Lullaby had to be held down by me to let the dentist even look in her mouth. Hawken kept saying, "She's scared! She's scared!" which of course, made her more scared. Matix used his new prize (a ninja) to karate chop a lady in the waiting room. Solace was in my arms, but trying to get down to crawl on the filthy floor... It was a bit nutty. Then they all wanted their pictures taken to show of their pearly whites, and by then I was happy again and thankful that we had survived. :) Also, Lullaby's one missing tooth is finally starting to come in, as proved by the TINY white bump and an x-ray just in case.
And, just for clarification, I did not go to the dentist. Matix just thought I needed my picture taken too. Lovely.
pool party
Matix's friends, Shaylee and Camille turned 6 and they had a pool party. We all went and had a great time. The weather this month has been a lot more consistent and summer is certainly here to stay. Even on rainy days, it's warm. I love it. Happy birthday girls! Thanks for the invite!

the upstairs
There is a room upstairs at the Children's Museum for children under 3. That's great if you don't have older children with you... Or a husband with a normal job that can come with you... No such luck for this family, until a few weeks ago. Paul came and I took the opportunity to see what it was like upstairs. It was SO fun for babies. I'm a little sad I don't ever get to go up there. Everything is soft and clean and quiet. Solace had a great time and even found a friend to kiss. So sweet. (We know their family from church)
beach day (in April)
About a month ago was when we started going to the beach. The weather was getting warm enough to go fairly regularly, so one day when we went, the Newells (minus Brian) came with us. That day though, was freezing and crazy windy.
After a hunt along the beach, we found a HUGE jellyfish on the shore and I was a little relieved that we weren't in the water that day very much. Then we fed the birds and called it a day. Next time we go with the Newells, hopefully it will be more fun for everyone. This day was alright, but not the usual amount of fun we have.

Mother's Day 2014
My Mother's Day this year was lovely. My first year with all four babies. I couldn't have picked a better crew than this one. I'm so grateful to be their mom. And what luck, they are all happy, healthy, FUN kiddies. And I get to keep them forever.
Matix made a few things at preschool (when another mom was teaching) and hid the presents in the house and brought them out on Mother's Day. He is finally getting the idea of surprises. The questionnaire he filled out was my favorite. He says I am 12 years old, my favorite color is pink, and my favorite thing to do is snuggle Matix. I love it.
Paul also took the kids to get a potted flower for me. They chose a white orchid. It is BEAUTIFUL and tall, but so so so tricky to take care of. We'll see how long it lives. So far it's made it almost three weeks. That is a success. :) Happy Mother's Day to our mothers and grandmothers and the other women who have mothered us (and our children) along the way. We are so grateful to have as many wonderful examples as we do. We love you Mom, Stacy, Gramma Evie, Grandma Berg, Grandma Pauline, Jill, Jane, and Crissi.

always
Cleaning is just no fun when you're two, unless you can be naked, and wear face paint, and a crown, and sing "The cold never bothered me anyway!" at the top of your lungs. Then cleaning is hilarious. For everyone.

nice
Waiting in the drive thru at Chick-Fil-A, we watched two young police officers walking far past their police car, to help these older ladies get to their car safely. The parking lot gets crazy around lunch time and it's scary for me walking with three little ones and carrying a baby, so I really appreciated seeing these two doing a good deed. It didn't go unnoticed. Good job Houston Police!

Preschool Party
Hawken had his end of year party with his preschool friends! He had so much fun. We went over to the Newell's house, ate cupcakes, played games, and the kids got their completion certificates. All these kids have one more year of preschool before Kindergarten. Thanks to all the moms for making this a GREAT co-op experience. Everyone was on their A-game. Congrats preschoolers!
Mindy shook everyone's hand when she gave them their certificate. It was cute. They didn't know what to do.

This week has been our first week with both boys not in preschool. They are getting pretty bored. Thank heavens we are going camping tomorrow. It's going to be a long trip and we are all so excited! I'll do some blog posts in advance for the grandmas and grandpas while we're gone, but not many. More to come next month when we are home again! :)
