February started out with a bang! Paul took Matix and Lullaby to do a ski tour for a few weeks. They started in Oregon and met up with some of his aunts and uncles and cousins. So fun. Then they headed to Idaho for more family and winter sport time, then to Utah for even more. Solace, Hawken and I stayed in Kauai to watch over the pets, receive deliveries, and work on the house. It all worked out great. Here are the pictures from their cold weather adventures:
Meanwhile, I went to a Relief Society activity and made some new friends.
I went to an estate sale and in one of the rooms, there was a dog... it used to be the pet of the owners, who had it stuffed. Wild.
Solace made his own Pokemon card pn his iPad.
He solved the bubble game and organized the colored balls.
The roofers kept on roofing, looking better and better every day.
Curiosity Kids fun, missing Lullaby and Matix though.
Pizza night before getting some paints for a project in the bathroom.
Solace got so tired at church that he fell asleep in my lap. He hasn't done that in a long time. Plus I wore my new cute shoes. I love them.
I swapped out the old hall light for a new one. I love the change.
Before pictures of the bathroom wall. Hawk and Sully reached picked out sample size colors of blues and purples and we painted at first with brushes and then with our fingers. It was a fun and messy project.
One night after I put the kids to bed, I saw a HUGE spider in the house. I didn't catch it, and somehow got to sleep that night. A few days later I saw it again and did catch it.
Out for a break of shave ice for my hard workers!
Back to sanding the floors in the laundry room. SO MUCH DUST!
The boys wanted to do a sleepover, and they cuddled together in Hawk's bed.
We went to Lihue for supplies, and got Panda Express and our free Pokemon pack from Game Stop on the way home.
I bought curtains and built a door frame and made three doors for the hall closets. The turned out just how I wanted. But I got a lot of glue on my hands that got stuck to all the dirt.
Out for Bubba's Burgers for dinner, which is where we noticed for the first time that Solace maybe needed glasses. There were funny meme type signs all over the place and Hawk and I were laughing about one, and when we pointed it out to Solace he said, "That one has words?" When he walked closer to the sign, he could read it. We scheduled him for an appointment with the eye doctor for the next week.
Errand run before more housework and renovations. I got the new knobs I ordered for the bathroom cabinet. So fun! Our big project was the bathroom, but I got to a stopping point and needed to wait for Paul and some plumbing questions before continuing...
Shave ice break for hard workers.
I went out to eat with one of my new friends, Alicia, at a falafel place. It was SO good.
Solace got to fill out some of his paperwork for his eye exam. He is nearsighted, like me, but not as strong of a prescription as mine. He tried on several pairs of glasses to find his favorite. Then we ordered them and waited for them to be ready. Out for ice cream afterward.
Paul got home and went straight back to regular work and working on the house. He answered my questions and I went back to work on the tile.
Valentine's Day happened and the kids got a bunch of treats from us, their grandmas and grandpa, and great grandma. Thank you!
On their way out to see their goodies, Paul scared Lullaby. Great faces!
Work on the new roof was finished! It was PERFECT! Yay!
Beach break with my favorite people. Kealia always has the best clouds. So pretty.
Matix drove his RC car down the storm drain by accident and had to lift the immensely heavy cover off and then Matix and Solace took turns climbing down to get the car and see all the bugs!
We had a rainy beach day with Rebecca, the person who runs Curiosity Kids, and a meeting for prospective parents for the following school year. We were dry for the meeting, then it poured when we left for the car.
Beach day at Lydgate with a new friend, Courtney and her kids. My kids climbed trees and built forts most of the time. This may have been the day that her kids fell in love with Lullaby. She's their babysitter now.
At Curiosity Kids, the older kids group was asked to research an interesting science topic and present it to the group during science class. It was really fun to see what each kid as into! They also did a Valentine exchange that day and that was fun too.
Church cuties.
Paul and the boys ran to the falls for a quick jump and then home.
Ice cream truck passed by right on time for the kids to grab some treats!
The windows and walls in the office were a priority for the house renovations to make that room sound proof for Paul. Taking out the old windows we found that we had to replace the frame as well. Then we cut the hole bigger to fit the new windows. It started raining right when we started, of course, although there was no rain in the forecast. We hung a tarp from the roof and went as fast as we could. The first window out and back in took us multiple hours, almost a full day, of trial and error, but we got it done. The second window took us an hour and a half total. Ha ha ha.
The kids helped with a service project and were rewarded with a feast! Then we headed to the church to clean, it had flooded in the gym and was a lot of work.
More work on the windows in the office. Swishy is always following me.
Kitty prints on the wall... HOW?
More window work.
Half of the window is in!
We did it! Almost 9pm!
I asked Matix to take a picture of the back of my hair after I did a braid, I got 1 picture of my braid, and several of his handsome face.
Googley should maybe be banned in church for my kids. I had a hard time not laughing at this silly girl.
Caulking the window from the outside a little extra to make sure it would stay water tight. It did.
New dye on my hair that had faded to basically nothing.
Artwork of a war, by Solace.
A new friend, Cherie, brought doughnuts by, just because. I love it here.
Only Hawaii.
Matix made dinner, fish, apples and bread.
My floor tiles for the bathrooms and laundry room arrived. I ordered them from an awesome place in Tennessee. Shipping times are the only problem. I ordered them in November... They arrived in late February. Yikes.
The last of the shower was the hardest part of demo in the whole house. Besides the tile and grout, there was a layer of concrete, chicken wire, some kind of paper, glue, and staples. It took an enormous amount of time and effort. We wanted to preserve the walls as best we could, underneath all the tile work.
Finished window and some trim, waiting on more pieces to do the finish work.
Lunch date with a new friend again, Alicia.
We went to Hanapepe Storybook Theater for a field trip with Curiosity Kids. It was so much fun. Our storyteller was great. Then to a beach afterward for a picnic lunch and tree climbing with friends.
Prepping the second window in Paul's office. I got all the glass slats out, and ready to go! Paul cut the wall hole bigger to fit the new windows.
Lullaby was invited to her friend Ella's birthday party. She and all the friends had a blast!
Work in the carport. We pulled off all the siding that was in there, and discovered some mold and mildew areas. Everything has to be treated, and then painted with Kilz before painting. It was a slower process too because of the tongue and groove walls. So everything had to be painted first in the crevices.
Peak of the mountains through the trees in the lot next to our house.
Whiskey made a bed for herself on Paul's desk.
Lullaby made dinner, broccoli cheddar soup in a bread bowl. We bought the bread, but she made everything else on her own.
A friend dropping off some rice pudding. So yummy.
Push up challenges in the parking lot of the eye doctor, on the way to pick up Solace's new glasses. So handsome!
Solace made dinner, egg fried rice. It turned out really good!
Here is a video of the February work on the house. Phew!
