Our last day on the island we went to 2-Step for diving, and then to South Point for cliff jumping. It was a great last day, but sad too. The Allens and the Andersons joined us and we had a fun last hoorah with them.
After the morning and afternoon at 2-Step the drive to South Point was just long enough for some naps.
The jump is really scary looking, with a rickety metal ladder going part way up, and the water is about 60 feet down. Paul, Matix and Hawken all jumped it, and Lullaby, Solace and I watched. First Paul:
Then Matix:
I got one of Gavan jumping in the foreground and Lyla jumping in the background:
Then Hawken decided to jump, but only once. He was really brave, besides him knowing how dangerous it was.
I miss these girls so much already.
Some of the kiddies together
We went to say goodbye to William, another favorite friend. It was a sad goodbye. We all cried. There are so many GOOD people on the Big Island of Hawaii.
Then next morning, we left our house early, at 5:45am. Cherie got the kid mattresses, and said goodbyes again. Audra met us there to take the last of our trash and our mattress, and help drive Swishy in his big cage to the airport cargo area. It took me, Audra, and Cherie tackling Whiskey to get her into her cage, and she almost had to be left behind. It was stressful, but all worked out in the end, just like the rest of our trip.
Our flights were a mess and after being cancelled and repurchased and cancelled and repurchased several times, we switched airlines and bought new tickets again and those ones worked. Traveling in the beginning of a global shutdown was really weird. We had lots of space on all the planes. We flew first to Oahu, then on to California, then we had to DRIVE the rest of the way to Utah. What a mess.
The cats did great in their little carriers, but cried a lot, poor things. The vet gave us extra meds for them, and that helped.
Leaving Hawaii was really hard. We know we are in a good place, but saying goodbye to such a wonderful place, such amazing friends, such awesome experiences, is the worst. We miss it so much. Here are some of the highlights of our 4 years there.
Once in California, Liesl met us at our hotel and brought us litter and a scoop and a litter box. She's a lifesaver. Then we took her out in the morning for a fast breakfast before heading on our way.
The drive with 4 kids, 2 adults, 1 large dog, 2 feral cats and a litter box was a bit crazy, but we made it work. The cats figured out how to use the litter box, and the kids figured out how to get comfortable and we stopped twice to sleep after leaving California. Then we finally arrived at our new house which none of us had ever been to in Utah.
