baby doll stroller

Matix's friend Ella left the island a while ago (sad), but when she went she left a few toys here. Lucky for Matix, she left her baby doll stroller. Matix had been crazy for all his friend's dolly strollers, but alas, he had none. Now that he has his own, he wants to take it EVERYWHERE! :) Inside, outside, to the CAC, to campus, and even shopping. He loads it up with toys, balls, food, but mostly just "baby go-go". He really loves it. I think it's his favorite toy.

This is now a very common sight. Me pushing Hawken in my stroller, and Matix pushing baby go-go in his stroller. :) So silly.

We go for walks all over the place like this. My favorite has been going to the grocery store where he insisted on holding his baby (just like I was) and walking around the store. He parked his stroller next to mine and copied everything I did. At the end he asked me for some "muneeee?" to pay for the cookies he picked out. :)

So, thanks Ella for the stroller. Matix loves it!

obsessed

Matix's obsession with sports is ever increasing and becoming more and more hilarious. We were on campus going for a walk... Matix with his stroller, and me with mine... We came upon a group of people playing volleyball, and of course, we HAD to stop and watch.
I kept thinking Matix was getting bored, but he kept on cheering and clapping for almost 30 minutes. About that time is when I couldn't take anymore, so I insisted that we leave. :)

And of course, the ever popular football game. There always seems to be a football game going on around here, and Matix LOVES it. Hawken watches too, but no one is as excited as Matix is.

We have also started watching the X games on TV. Matix loves seeing all the crazy tricks. He keeps yelling "WHOA!".

Hawken getting into stuff

Hawken has been pretty mischievous lately... The toilet paper in the bathroom seems to be a favorite, much to my dismay.
Just over a year ago (June 2009), I was posting about Matix getting into stuff and I have similar pictures up of him getting into the toilet paper... What a mess. The only difference is that Hawken tries to EAT it. No thank you.

bread lady

This is the "bread lady", as we lovingly refer to her. She runs a little shop that sells breads of all kinds. The other day, Matix found the door on the side and helped himself in... Thankfully, she loves Matix and she let him help her for a little while.

He thought it was SO funny to take my money and give me the bread... silly boy!

new poll: walking

Since Hawken has mastered crawling, cruising along furniture, and standing up alone, the next thing will probably be walking... how old do you think Hawken will be when he learns to walk? Vote on the poll on the right side of the blog.

He has taken 1 step without help, but that's it. He can walk a few steps when he thinks he is holding onto something... I say thinks because he can walk with this baby doll stroller. It is super unstable and if he puts any weight on it, it tips over. So when he walks with it, he is really walking... Sadly, I don't think it counts until he does it completely alone. :)

Also, when voting, I think walking is 10 steps or MORE alone. :) And, here are some stats to help with making an educated guess... Hawken rolled over at 2 months, scooted at 4 months, crawled at 6 months, stood alone at 7 months. Oh, and Matix walked at 10 months.

ping pong ball

Hawken is CONSTANTLY putting things in his mouth. Anything and everything within his reach has been put in his mouth at one point or another. But this... I never thought of.

Yes, that is a ping pong ball in his mouth. How silly does this look?!?!?!

Matix thinks it is hilarious to watch.

Sometimes Matix joins in the fun too. :) I love it.

And I finally got a fairly good picture of Hawken standing up by himself... Ball in mouth, of course! :) But really, look at this little guy!!! 7 months old, yikes! He does it all the time, but I couldn't seem to get any other pictures of it.

slow progress

They have been working on building a huge grocery store right near our house for the past 6 months and they are still only half way done... They work slow around here, I know. But recently, I found out one of the reasons why they are so slow...
Here I caught them using one of their machines and 4 of their workers to PICK MANGOS!!! :) 2 guys at the top with bags collecting the mangos, 1 operating the lift, and 1 directing from the ground. Tell me this isn't the silliest picture you've seen... :) I love Dominica.

7-11

Recently one of the grocery stores we have here in Picard started to have shopping carts. REAL shopping carts. To us, that is a treat! The boys thought it was SOOOO fun to ride in it while I shopped.

Don't they look big?!

What I should have taken a picture of was the big cart compared to the small aisles. It was comical trying to fit this cart down each row having only an inch of free space on either side AND with the boys both reaching out to grab items from the shelves in every direction... Ridiculous. :)

First I trick Grandma with the I'm-filling-up-this-watering-can-for-no-reason face.

Then I GET HER!!!!!!!! :)

more cows

There are tons of new baby cows on the island and we LOVE to see them. They are SO cute. Matix chased this one down the other day...

Showing Hawken the cows.

Then showing the calf where his momma is. :)

teething

In this picture you can see Hawken's two bottom teeth and his runny nose and his sleepy eyes... Yes, more teeth are on their way. I think the top two are the closest to coming in. I hate the teething thing. :( Hawken has a runny nose all the time, is cranky and VERY needy. He also is up most of the night coughing from the drainage, or crying from the pain... Poor little guy.

Also, Matix is working on his 2nd molars. Luckily, he is being a trooper about it and has still been sleeping well (thank goodness). Here's to a better night tonight... I'm tired!

cows

While Stacy was here, she and Hawken went next door to the empty lot to look at the cows that sometimes graze there. After taking the picture I searched back on the blog for a similar one I have of her with Matix doing the same thing. It was from when she came down here with Lee to bring us the rest of our stuff.

The first picture is of Hawken (7 months old), and the second is Matix (almost 11 months old). You can tell they have started to spray the weeds at the front to keep them from clogging up the drainage ditch, but other than that, no difference at all. :)

Sister's Beach with Grandma

Sister's Beach is a very rocky beach, so when it's just us, we stay out of the water (too much work for me). Anyway, it is fun to search for treasures on the shore. But when Grandma is here, Matix can go swimming!

Hawken and I stayed up on the beach collecting rocks and drift wood.

Red Rock with Grandma

Stacy left the island on Monday. :( It is always sad to see our visitors go. Before she left we went on a few more adventures that I haven't posted about yet... So here is one from Red Rock. We had so much fun.

We only waited at the bus stop for a few minutes.

It was VERY windy that day, check out Matix's hair. :)

We got to the beach REALLY quickly, not the world's best driver. His transport is called CWO, just a warning to others who live here... :) But when we arrived, it was well worth it. Stacy had a zen moment herself.

Hawken went right back to his sand eating routine. Yum!

Matix kept busy digging with his spoons and exploring.

The waves were huge, but there was a small area we could still swim without getting knocked over.

Hiding in the palm tree fort. Fun. :)

Hawken and Grandma next to a little blow hole. The water would rush in so fast that the air would burst back out and make a crazy big splash.

Matix got brave when he found this crab. He even got a stick to poke at it. What a boy! :) The crab had bright green eyes. Weird.

We had a great day, as always at Red Rock. We miss you already Grandma Stacy!

On the way home, both boys snuggled up and took a quick nap with us. So sweet.

gotcha!

Even though I leave Hawken's seat reclined back, Hawken is now strong enough to pull himself into the sitting position and reach forward in the stroller to pull Matix's hair... Poor Matix. :)
Hawken will pull it, Matix will turn around and say "no no baby!", Hawken giggles, then it starts again.
