Favorite Color?

Matix has been into picking out his own outfits lately. This is what he picked the other day.
Orange shirt, orange shorts, orange shoes and when I let him have a sucker as a treat for being good on our walk, he picked an orange one. :) Could he already have a favorite color? Orange is MY favorite color, but I honestly didn't influence this. :)

a nice boy and a naughty boy

Our friend and laundry guy Curvin stopped by the other day when he saw Matix outside playing in the yard. Well, Matix wasn't playing, he was going inside to take an early bath because he was a naughty boy... :)

Our house is SLOWLY be repainted white and our painter left the giant bucket of paint outside behind our house. Guess who found it before I did?! Yep. Matix did.
So, needless to say, Matix got paint all over himself. Hawken, of course, was a nice boy and waited ever so patiently on the floor while I helped Matix clean up.

Hurry Up Grandma!

Why does Matix look so concerned while playing in his sandbox?
His only shovel is broken! :( The handle snapped off. Hurry up Grandma Kim, we know you are bringing a NEW shovel! :) Plus we are excited to see you!

cute

What is it about babies in diapers that is so stinking cute?!
The boys like to get their diapers changed at the same time now. I do Hawken first and Matix will usually come lay down with him to play with him and look at him, then it is his turn. Very convenient for me... and so sweet.

Island Life

A day in the life of 2 little island boys... Walk down the street to "Sister's Beach"...
Stop along the way to collect rocks and splash in the puddles...
Look into holes in the ruins near campus to check for lizards...
Peek out of the baby bjorn at all the beautiful sights...
Isn't this island life fun?

New Cousin

Hawken and Matix are proud to announce the birth of their newest cousin (#14) Linnaea Mae Berg. She was born on Monday the 22nd and is healthy and beautiful. She looks a lot like her big brother Gavin did when he was a baby, only with darker hair.
Vanessa (the mom) and Linnaea are both doing well. Big brother Gavin (just over 3) is being very helpful and loves his new baby sister. Dale (the dad/Paul's brother) is doing well too and all are happy at home enjoying their new family of 4! :) We are so happy for them and excited to meet little Linnaea (whenever that may be)! Congrats guys!

Paul's parents have now had a grandchild every year since 2007. :) Gavin was born January 2007, then Matix in September 2008, then Hawken in December 2009, and now Linnaea in March 2010. How fun!

Caterpillar Tree

This is the "caterpillar tree". We used to call it the flower tree because it has these perfect little flowers on it...

But now we call it the caterpillar tree... We go on walks a lot and we pass it along the way. Matix pointed at it one day and said "bug"...

As I looked closer, I realized it was COVERED in caterpillars! They were really small for a week or two and now they are HUGE! :)

That is Paul's hand, so you can see how big they really are.
We have shown our caterpillar tree to lots of friends, it really is pretty cool. Here is a video of them too. You can see one eating a leaf.

Our Stinker Kids!

We have 2 stinker kids on our hands... and I have 2 videos that prove it! :)

The first is of Matix. We have been eating lots of mangos lately. Matix LOVES mangos and is very motivated by them. So when we prompted him to say "more mango" he said it VERY clearly. He did it a few times, so I pulled the camera out to get it on film, but of course... He was a stinker. Watch.

Now onto Hawken. Listen carefully. :)
See? 2 stinkers!

My Boys

I feel so lucky lately. I have two wonderful boys, a fantastic husband, a great life. I really don't have words to say how happy I am. Paul is so good to me and our babies. He is so attentive and loving. I love watching him with them. I can't believe I got him. :)
Hawken is so calm and happy. He lights up every room he is in. Matix is such a curious little boy, discovering new things in his world each day. He makes everything fun and interesting. I love watching them grow. I am forever grateful for all the support we have been given by our friends and family, the experiences we have had, and the opportunities we will be given. How great is life?! I am loving it! :)

The Mirror

We have discovered the mirror! Hawken thinks he is pretty cute and now coos at himself.
Matix will lay down next to him and they both just admire themselves... I think I probably would do the same thing if I were that cute too! :)

For me?!

Matix likes to bring me things. Sometimes rocks, leaves, sticks, trash, bugs (alive and dead), and sometimes, I get flowers. :) It's is there, wadded up in his little fingers.
What a sweet little boy! This totally makes up for the bug I got earlier today!

Banana Trail

We went to visit some of our friends for a play date at their house. They live on Banana Trail and they have the world's STEEPEST hills. It was craziness trying to push our strollers up and down them. I tried to get a video, but you can't tell how bad it was. I will have to go back some day to show all of you back in the States how insane it is. Kudos to all of you buff enough to actually live there. I could NEVER do it!

We all had fun playing, talking, eating cupcakes... YUM! :) We looked so silly leaving their place with our stroller train. Here is everyone (minus me and Hawken)... We were taking the picture.

Hawken

I love this picture of Hawken (minus the mess in the background... obviously it was impromptu and not staged very well). I haven't been very good about downloading the pictures from my camera right away, so it is from a week or so ago, but SO cute, right? I love this little guy! :)

Movies

This is our new thing. Matix has liked to watch movies of himself for a while... but now Hawken seems to enjoy it too. :) Cute.

Happy St. Patrick's Day...

... from 2 little Irish boys! :)

Again and again and again...

Oh the age of repeating everything.... Matix loves for us to repeat the same thing or do the same thing over and over and over again. He thinks it is SO funny. And we always tire of it before he does. :)

This is from a bedtime book we were reading in the evening, so it is fairly dark, but you can still hear all the giggles.

Hawken trying to crawl

As promised, this is a video of Hawken's attempts at crawling. Of course there have been many really good tries NOT captured, but here is what I have. Enjoy. Oh, also, there is a poll on the side that you can vote how old Hawken will be when he does decide to crawl... :)

Matix is 1 and 1/2!!!

Today, Matix is 1 and 1/2! Exactly 18 months old...
I really don't know how this happened so fast. Matix is such a fun little boy. He is constantly making us laugh. These are some of the things he loves right now...
  • He loves running from Paul after his bath, trying to stay naked for as long as possible.
  • He really loves being a big brother.
  • He likes to talk on skype. Kisses through the camera and everything.
  • He loves to talk and make noise, even though we don't understand most of what he says.
  • He likes to make a cheesy face and blow kisses.
  • He always dances when he hears music. He has just started a new slower dance to slow music. So cute.
  • He loves to eat. Everything really, but especially things that are messy.
  • He loves being silly and making people laugh. Such a ham!
  • He likes the ocean and pool and any other body of water he can play in.
  • He loves reading books with Paul before bed time. It is a special Daddy/Matix time.
  • He always likes to explore in the yard. Hunting lizards, digging holes, collecting flowers..
  • He loves his friends and they love him (see the "friends" post from a few days ago).
  • He loves to show people his muscles... He flexes at them and makes a silly face.
  • He likes to pick peoples noses, if they let him. :)
  • He likes helping in every capacity.
  • He always likes going for walks and collecting tons of rocks.
  • He still loves his paci and blankie when he needs comfort or is sleepy.
  • He loves to giggle and laugh, and it is so contagious!
  • He likes to snuggle when he wakes up.
  • He really just loves life and loves to experience everything. :)
We love you Matix and can hardly wait to see all the new things you have yet to learn and discover!

Grandparents

It has been about a month that we have gone with NO Grandparents... And although it is nice to be just our little family again, we really miss them. :( I was looking through some of our older pictures and thinking about how lucky we are to have such wonderful families... People who take time out of their lives to love and support us. So here is to you guys.

Not all of Matix and Hawken's Grandparents and Great Grandparents have met them yet, but hopefully will soon. Hawken is waiting to meet his Great Grandma Evie (the one he was named for), and Grandpa Louie. Both Matix and Hawken are also waiting to meet their Great Grandpa George and Great Grandma Pauline.

Here are some pictures of the boys with Grandma Kim, Grandpa Chuck, Grandma Stacy, Grandpa Lee, Great Grandma Berg and Great Grandpa Berg.
We miss you all and love you. Thank you for being there for us. :)
