service day

After the floods, lots of homes were washed away, or damaged severely. We were given the opportunity to go to Anahola, the next town north, to help clear out all the trees that had washed up in their yards, and next to their houses. Paul bought a chainsaw and we got to ride in a back of a truck.

The trees were HUGE and took a lot of effort to clear away. Solace and Lullaby spent a lot of time in the "kid house" watching a movie, while the big boys worked. Then even they got too tired and went inside. Paul and I worked until we were exhausted. I was happy to do it, but I do hope this kind of flood waits another 500 years so I won't be here to clean up the mess again.

Snow

Our tiny kitten is starting to grow a bit bigger, but I'm not sure she'll ever be really that big. She hunts for bugs in the grass when we sneak her out. The HOA doesn't like outdoor cats. Shh, don't tell.

family discount

Kyler broke his arm before coming out to Hawaii and would have been able to get it taken off during the time he was on island, but of course, his doctor was back in Utah. Thankfully, Camilla knew a doctor in Kauai would could take it off, even though he had to use some unconventional tools. Kyler's arm was healed up and he was SO happy to not have to wear a bag in the ocean again.

wedding day

Kyle and Camilla got married at their resort on the south side. We were grateful that they chose our island for their destination wedding, because otherwise we wouldn't have been invited. Only parents, siblings and best friends were there. Cousins didn't make the cut, except us, and it was wonderful!

Lullaby asked for "fancy, but not too fancy, wedding hair" and this is what she meant.

Waiting for the ceremony to start was okay as long as Sully was allowed to take endless amounts of selfies...

The beautiful bride, and her babies, and new husband were picture perfect. It was so much fun to watch.

The open bar meant the kids could order as many Shirley Temples as they wanted, and Alicia and I ordered just as many Cinderellas. Yum!  It's fun to have a fancy drink even if you don't drink alcohol.

Inside, there were lots of these great big games for the kids to play. It was so much fun, and a nice place for the kids to spend their time during the reception.

Sully and Ada were fast friends and so cute together. Congrats to Kyle and Camilla! We love you.

Shipwrecks and Poipu

We headed down south again to see Paul's cousins and their families.  First we went to Shipwrecks Beach, but Paul couldn't convince any of them to jump the cliff, so we packed up and headed to a more family friendly beach, Poipu.

Of course we were greeted with several turtle and seal sightings, as is haul on that beach. Aunt Mindy and Uncle Danny brought some skim boards from their rental and our kids hogged them the whole time. They were the only ones who knew how to use them too. So funny.

We waded through the shallow canal to the little island just off the beach, where the turtles rest themselves.  We hunted in the tide pools for other creatures to show the cousins, and found lots of great things.  Hermit crabs, sea cucumbers, and lots of starfish.
