I just love them more when they're sleeping. I don't know why, but I do. He fell asleep in his trunks before I could change him, and he's holding a telescope. Ha ha ha.
I even take pictures of other people's kids while they sleep. :) I was babysitting Emme and Zoe and was proud of myself for getting them to sleep. I wasn't sure it could be done, they were very wild that day!
It takes most things a LONG time to get here, but the table took an abnormally long time. Like months! When it did finally arrive, I was so excited I took a picture of the guy setting it up. Such a happy day! It's cuter without the folding chair and other wooden chair stuck in there, that was just while the Flores' were here so we could all fit at the table together. Isn't it cute?! It's like a real table! And we all fit!
Matix brought a treat to school on Wednesday for his friends and teacher, then after school, we headed up to the North Shore to watch the waves. They weren't particularly big, but they crashed on the shore and were fun to watch. It was a great way to celebrate this water baby's birthday.
The kids played around until they got hungry.
We went out to eat (per the birthday boy's request) at a burger place. Then to Matsumoto's for shave ice. Happy happy birthday to our amazing 8 year old.
Getting pictures of Paul surfing is hard with my phone, they always end up blurry. These pictures are from White Plains when it still had waves consistently there. Now it's only sporadically when a southern swell comes in.
Lullaby loves going out surfing with Paul and she catches EVERYTHING. She has no idea that most people have to wait to catch waves, since Paul paddles the whole way in. Spoiled girl.
Matix's birthday morning was full of cards and gifts from the grandparents. His birthday fell on a Wednesday, so he got to bring treats to school for his friends too. Thank you to the grandparents for all the cards, gifts, love notes and money! He loved it all!
It is hard to believe that we have an 8 year old! EIGHT!
A couple days after Lullaby's party, we ate her cake. It was SO good, and looked really cute. The adults had some at night, and the kids got a slice the next morning. The buttercream stayed very fresh and tasty. Yum!
Hawken went to his first and only cub scout meeting in September. They made bird houses and bird feeders and talked about some things having to do with birds and nature. Hawken thought it was pretty fun, but the schedule wasn't our favorite. We had to quit. Paul really loves the boy scout program, so once the kids are old enough for that, they'll participate in that. At least we gave it a shot.
Matix is constantly getting himself hurt. He's fallen out of the climbing tree, and fall down the stairs, and hit his head on the ground... He also has the lowest pain tolerance out of all the kids, so no joke, even when he gets a splinter he screams in pain. It's awful. So when he gets a real injury, he makes noises like he's dying. Poor thing. When he was roughhousing with his friends and accidentally got hit with a stick, a huge gang of boys came running and panicking to my door to tell me all about it. They felt really bad. He healed up fine, but it's amazing how often this child hurts himself.
Lullaby woke up, crawled in my bed and was served her breakfast, even with a fresh flower. She was very excited. Breakfast in bed is a serious luxury around here.
Then she HAD to open some presents, and some she saved for later.
Grandma Kim always send extra gifts for the non-birthday kids to have something to open, which is so sweet.
Then I got to work making ten million tiny cupcakes and a big cake, as per Lullaby's request. She didn't get to see any of it until we got to the splash pad.
Still in progress, no leaves, or little toys on it yet, as she wanted.
Oh, and these were the final sugar cookies. Lullaby loved them, and they tasted great. :)
All her little friends were so sweet, and everyone had a fun time. The splashed was a great place to have the party. The kids ran around, danced with the metallic ribbon sticks, ate treats and snacks... Really, a good party.
The friends got to pick a few prizes from the prize bucket. All the things inside were Lullaby's favorites. Twozies, Shopkins, Play-Doh, Animal Jams, and Peppa Pig. Plus the friends got to keep one of the metallic ribbon sticks too.
When we got home, Lullaby was especially excited about the makeup that her friend Holland got for her. She put it on Daddy first. Thank goodness he's such a good sport. Then Matix put some makeup on Lullaby.
We love you birthday girl! I can't believe you are a WHOLE HAND old now!
On Monday, she opened the rest of her cards, the only kid who draws out her birthday on purpose. But the second she did, she needed to go to the store and spend up her birthday money. :) This was the card from my dad. So fun!
Here she is with all her LOOT! Thank you everyone for all the gifts, cards, love notes and money. She was as spoiled as ever, and very thankful!
