Pinewood Derby

Matix and Hawken took more time and effort this year making their pinewood derby cars. They were a little worried since last year they didn't do as well as they had hoped.

These pictures make me so happy... The waiting, anticipation of the first race... Matix looked like he might faint, with his hands cupped tight over his mouth.

The happy skipping to get his winning car.

Hawken looked just as nervous waiting, but couldn't hold back the excitement when his car smoked the other car.

The boys were very gracious winners in the end and placed 2nd and 3rd. 1st place went to Matix's best friend Ethan, so we were excited for him too! They said "good race!" at the end of each race, and their friends were all very supportive. It was really nice to see.

I made some pinewood derby cookies for the day, since there is always a ton of food for everyone at these cub scout events.

Matix, working on another badge, made a game for his friends to play after the race was finished. They were really excited and Matix did a great job announcing it, stating the rules, and managing the line and each person's turn. It was fun to see his idea in action.

We are so proud of you boys! The hard work and thinking about building the car, but also being a gracious winner and saying, "good race" to the opponents! You are WONDERFUL PEOPLE and we love you so much!
