We found out that the Fire Falls were happening in Yosemite in the second week of February and we wanted to see them bad! We made the trip first to see Paul's Uncle Sterling. He let us stay at his cabin in Lake Tahoe with him and ski Heavenly where he is a ski instructor. On the way we saw the name we had made on the side of the road with black rocks and a piece of tire a year earlier. So fun!
We stayed overnight on the way at a little casino hotel, and then got to Tahoe in time to ski a little bit of a day. The views were amazing! Sterling met up with us at closing time and we headed back to his cabin. He got us all gear with Heavenly logos on them, so nice!
Ski day 2 was much more intense and Sterling took us all to new heights! He gave all the kids a few tips and tricks and was especially impressed with Lullaby and her skiing skills.
Sterling took Paul on a run just the two of them and they skied all the way over to Nevada! So fun. It's nice to have a professional guide as an uncle!
After another night at Sterling's cabin, we headed to Yosemite to try and see the Fire Falls. They only happen once a year for a day or two.
We made it there about an hour before sunset and followed the crowds of people with expensive cameras to get to the right spot. What a beautiful park!
We got in position and watched as Horsetail Falls turned from orange to FIRE, despite the low levels of actual water in the falls, it was stunning to see. Of course, I was working with an iPhone, not an expensive camera, but it was really neat to see.
We stayed the night at a hotel near Yosemite, and drove until near sunset to see the 7 Magic Mountains. It's an art piece erected in the middle of nowhere on the way to Las Vegas. We took lots of pictures, then stayed the night in Las Vegas before headed home to Saratoga Springs.
Solace gave us a tour of the hotel. We've stayed here a handful of times and the kids love it because it's like a little house.
Breakfast at our favorite cafe in Vegas, Phoebe's. I love how Sully draws on his kids' menu. He drew a little guy and a speech bubble that says, "yes" and an arrow pointing to his choice. So cute.
Plus a video of the whole roadtrip. It was so fun.

I remember when you told me about the fire falls, but I had never heard about it before, or seen it... beautiful!
