double date night

Now that my hair is purple, when I go places with Makenzir people think we are somehow related. Because sisters often dye their hair similar shades of the rainbow? We went for Korean food first (Makenzie's favorite) and it was delicious! Then out for dessert to get hot chocolate and macaroons. It was SO much fun.  We love them!

love is in the air

As I write this, Matix and Hawken are working on their Valentine cards for class. Hawken's class sent a heart paper home for the parents to write to their child. The teacher/student got to read it out loud in class to see what the parent wrote. Paul and I decided on writing this rhyming love note:
"Hawken, You're always kind! You don't leave friends behind! You're so helpful and sweet, and fast on your feet! You're handsome and smart, and you fill up our heart! We love you no matter the weather. We love you today and we'll love you forever! Love Mom and Dad"

This was a leftover from Thanksgiving that just got taken down from the fridge. But I love it so! :)

Children's Museum with Zoe

We took Zoe with us to the Children's Museum and she had a blast. Not only did we add her, but a friend from story time, Josefina, tagged along with us too once we got there. Zoe had a blast and was as busy as hum any possible. Lullaby loved having her there.

Hawk's school work

Hawken is loving kindergarten. He gets a packet of homework (between 5 and 10 pages front and back) on Monday each week. This is meant to be done a couple pages at a time, and returned on Friday.  Hawken, however, always does all his work Monday night. He loves it. He doesn't love sounding things out to write though, when he isn't sure that it is spelled correctly. We really have to push him to take risks. He is such a perfectionist. But I have proof that he CAN do it. :)

adventures

These are the last 2 pictures of Hawken's bike. Paul used it to do tricks and broke the pedal and the crank off. So sad. It was going to be the same amount to buy the part as it would be to buy a whole new bike. So Hawken got a new bike a few days later.

The new trick is to put someone or something in between the jumps while someone runs or rides over the top. It looks a lot scarier than it really is. Matix goes so fast, he hardly touches the down ramp anyway.

Sully loves feeling included. Such a daredevil!

Lullaby wanted to try too, but the big boys had moved on to another activity, so Sully just ran to the top and stepped over. Ha ha.

That was also the day for Stella's birthday cake! She got a cookie cake and decorated it herself. Happy birthday Stella!

MLK day

On Martin Luther King Jr. Day, we watched his famous dream speech. The boys had already watched it at their schools, but were happy to watch it again for our Family Home Evening activity.  Matix and Hawken both quoted it during the speech at different parts, and while we talked about what he meant afterward.  Paul and I were extremely surprised and amazed at what they took away from the speech. They are such loving and kind boys.
The day he watched the movie at school, Matix came home and said he cried at school that day. When I asked why, he said it was because of learning about Martin Luther King Jr. He was sad that there were people being treated so badly, so he cried. And he cried again after hearing the speech, because he was happy for what Dr. King was trying to teach people. We talked a lot about civil rights, and past historical tragedies. We also talked about what WE can do to make sure things like this don't happen again. This was our best FHE week ever.

friends

We had two of our favorite families over for dinner and games. It was a really fun night, but we all stayed up way too late! I brought down the tables from the playroom so we could fit all the kids.

Then we played Pie Face and got some really funny pictures. This is the most FUN you can have while playing a children's game.

The other guys were lucky and didn't get any in their faces at first.

Paul was not so lucky. :)

Hawken made it without any pie in his face.  He was so shocked!

Matix was lucky his first time too!

Logan got the award for most shocked pie face! He was so surprised!

Hawk tried again without getting hit, but then cranked it a few more times anyway (after some coaxing from Paul) and got it in his hair. :)
After that the kids all ran around together playing and laughing while the grownups played a ridiculous game called "Dirty Minds". Brian and Mindy got it for their wedding.  That game had us laughing hysterically. So funny. Thanks for the fun night!

Baby Emme

We got to babysit baby Emme and Lullaby was in love. She SUPER loves taking care of babies (which means anyone younger than herself). She's such a good little mommy.

new hair

Well, it was a LONG process, but I switched my hair color again. Now it's purple, and I love it! I had more than an inch of roots, and had just washed my hair trying to strip out as much of the orange as possible. So here is my before.

I tried coloring my hair blonde, which didn't work very well. 2 bottles covered only the back half of my hair. I sent Paul to the store to buy bleach for me.

In the meantime, I tried out the purple dye that I had (Special Effects) on a test area and it turned BLUE. Not the look I was going for, so I called Paul and told him to get me a purple dye too.

Although I had specified which dye and bleach to buy, he bought $85 of OTHER things. The ladies at Sally Beauty Supply saw him coming a mile away. He didn't return with anything that I had asked for, and now I have tons of things to return to them… Thanks, but no thanks Sally.  I bleached my hair all over and turned it white (no pictures of that). Then I dyed it purple... There were areas of my hair that didn't take the dye at all, and some areas that were really dark.

That was okay for a week, but then I re-dyed it purple to try and cover the areas that were showing some blonde through. I tried that plastic bag method for holding in the dye. It also helps to not get on the furniture.

After while wet. Looks better already!

And DONE! Yes please! Purple stays moderately well in my hair, so I think I will have it for a while. We'll see though. I get bored rather quickly.
