Our friends brought us on a strange hike down to a very hidden beach. You have to walk through this private gate and into a private yard, despite the signs that seem to say not to. All beaches here must have public access to them in Hawaii, as no one is allowed to own a beach. So we had to walk along the property line to get to this beach. It was a long walk, but so worth it!
The river ran along side the old sugar mill and there are remnants of it there. It was super interesting to see. We found lots of treasures right away and spent the whole afternoon there on the beach. Such a nice day.
After playing in the river and building dams and hunting for treasures, the kids cracked open a few coconuts and we drank the water and ate the meat. So fun, and such a typical Hawaiian beach day. I love that this is their childhood, very adventurous.

I would be scared walking through a gate like that.
