Solace in school!

Solace has always struggled with his words. He didn't start talking until around 2 (with the exception of "ball" and "mama"), and since then he hadn't made much progress toward becoming more intelligible. He is very crafty and was able to get his needs met in ways other than talking, but I knew he would benefit from some intervention. After getting him tested, he qualified for the special education program here at the school in our neighborhood. He was placed in an inclusion classroom, with mostly typically developing peers. He has his own IEP now, and teachers and aids, and best friends. On his first day there, he was SO excited. We had been to the classroom several other times for his evaluation, and IEP meetings, so when he finally got to STAY there, he was elated!

He didn't really understand the rules, lining up, where to put his backpack, etc. But because he was starting in the middle of the year, all the other kids knew just what to do and that helped him a lot. He's a pro now and LOVES his school. Also, since starting, his language intelligibility has improved GREATLY. His vocabulary has increased a bit too, as well as letter recognition, number recognition, colors, and the bad behaviors he had from getting frustrated that no one could understand him are going away too. All in all, this has been the best experience.
