Grandma visits again

Grandma Stacy came for another visit, and after reading a few books, we jumped into an adventure.

We brought her down to see the new lava.  This is where it's still hot in some areas. So scary!

Another orb with Hawken, as usual, but only in one picture.

This new lava is VERY sharp, and shiny.

There is one house that was spared, and part of their yard was saved. It's weird to see it amongst all the lava rock.

Another house still stood, beyond the view, but the family had to carve a new driveway to get there, after the lava covered their old one.

This house didn't make it, but the metal framework from the roof is still there. The houses here are all on stilts and you can see how far down below the road it is.  There must be 40 or more feet of lava here. Our friends, the Dortch family, who also lost their house, is under 80+ feet of lava. Wild.

Then we headed to McKenzie State Park to see the old lava tubes, the sea cliffs, and the new beach.

Hawken and I stayed up, and Paul, Grandma Stacy, and the others all hiked through the old partially collapsed lava tube.

Then to the cliffs. Look at this pretty girl!

Then we tried to get a well-timed picture of these two with a big splash in front of them, as it turns out, we planned it for the BIGGEST splash, that went far past where the last few waves had crashed and soaked them. They were NOT pleased.

Those two dried out on the way over to the Allen's house and we had our Wednesday pizza party day there.

I brought cookies for the dessert. I love the little mitten cookies in the winter time, even though we didn't have cold enough weather to ever need real mittens.
