End-of-Year Luau!

The party was awesome! Leis were given as gifts to all the teachers by several of the students, they got into costume, and got ready for their big night! They had been practicing all year long with Uncle Phil for this night.

We had a great turnout. All 45 students came, plus their families and siblings. It was a packed house!

Lullaby got to perform with her friend Missy. She chose to do glow balls instead of the real poi balls with fire.

Matix went the safe route on the night of, and did "A" pattern, which is less complicated than the one-handed pattern he had been practicing. Turns out he had a bit of stage fright, though you wouldn't know it, since he looked like he was calm and composed. He did a great job.

Hawken was one of core drummers. Even when Uncle Phil's nephew performed at the end and wowed everyone with his fire knife skills, Hawken was able to keep playing, like he was supposed to. Several of the other kids forgot to keep drumming. Hawk also LOVED wearing this outfit. The ti leaf necklace was his favorite.

Afterward, everyone was pleased with their performances. Liesl was there cheering them on too, which was nice. The kids got their art books to take home, and science journals, and cook books, and all the others things from the classes. It was so fun to see everything they had been working on that year.

After all the other families had left, and only our family, the Hunts, and a few stragglers were there, we let the kids play with the fire again. The excitement of the night had died down, and the kids had a great time playing in the dark with a stick of fire. The moms tried our hand at drumming, although it's harder than it looks. Even Liesl tried out the poi balls, after practicing a little with the glow balls. Solace and Becca snuck away to cuddle and was a show on her phone instead of playing with fire. After burning his foot so badly the year before, he doesn't care too much for fire.

All in all, it was a great night. The kids worked hard, and you could tell. They put a lot of preparation into it. I loved watching my kids go outside their comfort zones and try these new and challenging things. I am so proud of them.  Homeschooling, for our first year, wasn't without it's challenges, but it was SO worth it. The kids did very well, learned a lot, and spent tons of time at the beach, on hikes, in the jungle, exploring, and playing and being KIDS.
