Option's Day

Solace got to come to Option's Day with me on a day that public schools were out. He really loved it. It also happened to be the day Uncle Phil let the kids try out spinning fire for the first time.

Matix got his hair wet and went to it. It was scary to watch, but Uncle Phil had prepped him well and it was time to try it out.

The eruptions had started on the Big Island and a lot of the kids in my art class had friends and family who lived there. They were very scared and had a lot of thoughts about it and what might happen. So we talked lots about it and made pictures showing what we talked about. We talked about Pele, the fire and lava goddess, and what storms might do to the lava if it hit the water, and how new land would grow. It was a nice way for them to get their feelings out on paper.

Great teachable moment, therapy, and art - all rolled into one!
