Uncle Phil and fire spinning

Uncle Phil invited us to go to his house one afternoon so the kids could practice more fire spinning under his supervision. For the end-of-the-year luau, most of the kids would be performing, so he wanted them to get some practice in. We have LOVED our time with Uncle Phil. He is very knowledgeable, and patient, but strict and held high expectations.

The Hunts went too and both Hannah and Ethan got some time to practice. Ethan used the fire knife, and Hannah used the poi balls.

Matix was a little worried about trying it again, this was his second time spinning using fire, but Phil was right there giving him pointers and cheering him on. It was awesome to watch our little 9 year old doing this crazy thing!

After a little break, he tried it one-handed. He had been using his practice fire-knife one handed for months, but this is a video of the first time he did it one-handed WITH fire. Scary, but really cool. We were so grateful he got to learn this amazing traditional Samoan fire dance.

I love the slo-mo to see how he does it.
