In the evening of January 31st, our sweet Kina had a seizure. I saw it, I held her, and it was awful. I talked to Paul who was still at work and told the kids. We got her cheeseburgers, as per Matix's request. She ate hers and then whatever was left of each of the kids' cheeseburgers. She loved it. Then she had more seizures. The kids didn't see them. Paul came home and with tears in our eyes, we talked to Kina, loved on her and each of the kids said their good byes, just in case. After the kids went to bed, Kina continued to decline, we called several vets and it was clear that this was the end for her. We set up an appointment for a vet to come to our home in the morning to put her to sleep. But then through the night she kept seizing. Each time taking her farther and farther away. Paul and I laid on the couches in the living room and would jump up and hold her when she had another one. There were moments of lucidity through the night though, and she snuggled up to both me and Paul, knocking us over to lay in our laps. It was so sweet, and so typical Kina. Taking care of us, saying goodbye. When she started whimpering, we decided it was time. It was very early in the morning on February 1st, and Paul took her in to the emergency vet. Paul and I cried all night long. It was the worst. When the kids woke up and we told them, they all screamed and cried. Each of them talked about their dreams in the night. That Sakina was in their beds, which gave them all comfort. They stayed home from school that day. Sakina had been a part of their entire lives, and it was a very empty feeling without her there. She was born on Halloween, 10-31-03 and died 2/1/2017. Thirteen years was a LONG time for a big dog. We love you, you giant puppy. You are the BEST dog.
Looking back through some pictures and videos of Kina helped us to start healing. We will never stop missing her, or thinking about her, but our hearts are healing. When I got her in college, they guessed she would be about 40 pounds (she was 110 most of her life).
She LOVED the kids, and tolerated so much from them. She was a protector and a snuggle bug. She had a very expressive face, and we always knew what she was thinking.
Although she was in my life first, Paul eventually became her favorite person. She always thought she was a lap dog and could never get enough touches and pets.
She loved going for walks and hikes. She loved the snow, but hated the rain. She shed SO much fur, it was amazing that she still had any on her body.
She was a food their and always loved on the babies, hoping for some snacks to be dropped for her.
Sakina, we love you. We love you. We love you.

She was the BEST dog. She was my Granddog. I remember the day you rescued her. I can't decide which one of these pictures is my favorite.
So sad, she was a good loving dog and always so good with the kids. The day after her passing was such a good way for all the family to say their good by's.
Those are some great pictures. She was so loving.
