medical school update!

Paul, that amazing hubby of mine, starts his clinical rotations tomorrow morning!!! Wish him luck! :) He will be doing his 6 week family practice rotation first. He requested that one because the new baby will most likely be coming sometime during the next 6 weeks (she is due the day after he is done). Family practice rotations are known for being one of the milder rotations, and hopefully more understanding if he needs to take off one or two days while the baby makes her debut. We shall see. :)

After family practice is over (on a Friday), then he will do his 12 week internal medicine rotation (starting that Monday) at Mount Sinai on Miami Beach... This means Paul will get tons of great experience and we will just have to make lots of extra trips to the beach to visit him during his lunch or whenever they might give him a break. :) We are super excited to get all of this started, Paul especially. He said that this is what people think about when they want to become a doctor, not all the tests and bookwork and class time. The REAL hands on stuff. Hooray! And I know he will do great!

The internal medicine rotation will be over in the middle of December at which point we will be moving to (or near) Atlanta Georgia while he finishes his core rotations back to back. When one rotation ends on a Friday, the next will begin the following Monday. This is how we want it, so we have a bigger chunk of time at the end of everything. The rest of the core rotations are (not in the right order, I can't remember that much) pediatrics, surgery, obgyn, and psychiatry.

After his cores are done (next summer), then he will do another almost year of elective rotations. We don't really know where we would like to be for this part. We could stay in Georgia and do them there, we could try to go to Colorado so it would be easier for him to get into a residency program there afterward, or really anywhere else... What we are really hoping for though, is that he will be able to do his last 1 or 2 rotations in Hawaii. Too fun, right? We have another med school family in on it too. :) If it doesn't work out, we still are going to go out there for an extended vacation when he finishes as a congrats to Paul for completing yet another HUGE step toward becoming a doctor. He works so hard at everything he does, and we are proud of him.
