While driving down toward Tulum we started seeing signs for cenotes along the road. Since we didn't have kids with us, we stopped when we felt like it. It was such a relaxing vacation! We picked one of the cents, and I'm sure we made the BEST choice. It was amazing! It was a series of underground caves with fresh water rivers flowing through it.
There were natural skylights that lit up the water a spectacular shade of aquamarine. They also put in some spotlights to shine in the darker areas. They gave us snorkels and masks and an around the belly float, so we didn't have to tread water all the time.
The tree roots from above grew all the way down into the water, which was over 20 feet in some cases. What?!
We had a guided tour (all in Spanish) just for the two of us. It was amazing.
This large school of catfish lived there, but stayed altogether, so we didn't have to touch them. The guide said they are blind because the cave is so dark, so they feed them. We got to do that too, which was fun.
This stalactite dipped all the way down under the water. Nature is so fascinating.

It was seriously such a great day. I am so thankful we got to go to Cancun and spend all this time together just the two of us.

I'm so glad you got to go too. I bet the kids are ready to go too after seeing the pictures. They would love swimming through those caves. :)
