When the kids can't see Paul for days at a time because of his schedule and theirs not mixing well, we have to figure out another way for them to see each other. One night we drove up to Daddy's work when we knew he had a bit of time that he could see us. The kids were SO happy to get to see his hospital.
He surprised us by bringing us to a secret playground on the roof of the hospital. There were no lights up there, so we played in the dark, and it was SO much fun. Paul kept his phone by him, in case he was needed, but for that bit of time, he was all ours. Thank goodness!
Then he brought us to his tiny home away from home (his on-call room) and the kids watched some TV, and jumped on his bed, and yelled to hear their voices echo in the surprisingly large bathroom/changing area.
When your daddy is a doctor and has terrible residency hours, you do what you have to do to be near him. Even when that means making a 2 hour trip to see him for 1 hour. We love him too much.

A VERY GOOD idea!
What a neat adventure with Daddy. So, why is there a playground on the roof? And why do the kids look so sad in that one picture? I bet Paul loved the visit.
