Tulum

We drove down to Tulum to see the ruins. On our way in we got to watch these Mayan men climb this huge pole, wrap a rope around themselves, hang upside-down and spin down to the ground, all while making music… It was SO crazy!

Here's the Temple of the Descending God, which has interesting correlations to the Book of Mormon and Jesus Christ.

Here are more pictures from the grounds. The ruins (if you can call them that) are in amazingly good shape, and so impressive.

We hiked around the back to see what the edge of the city looked like. Tulum is pushed up against the ocean, with a high stone wall around the three jungle sides of it. It was breathtaking!

There were lots of iguanas who live there, eating fruits from the mango trees. What a life. But man are they scary looking!

Each structure was protected by a small fence, and some more detailed carvings were protected by a grass thatched roof that was added much more recently to preserve it.

Some windows were held up by metal beams, I'm sure to keep the structure intact.  Do you see the face carved into this corner? Very cool!

My orange hair perfectly matched this orange flower! So fun!

The picture doesn't really show how beautiful these birds were, but they had brilliant blue feathers. We saw them in the jungles surrounding Tulum.

Here is an entrance to the city, it was a pretty thick wall they built! Such a fun adventure.
